Guangzhou to Hong Kong

On my next leg of the trip, I had to get from Guangzhou to Hong Kong but I didn't expect it to be as simple as just taking a train (but it is).

To get to the train station in Guangzhou, you can take the MTR to Guangzhou East (Guangzhou-dong) station and there are directional signs there that will guide you to the train station. I did get a little lost here because there were different accesses to different trains to different places. Ask around and people will guide you to the right place. Basically, you'll have to pass through this security check (like those scanners in the airport) before you can get into the ticketing booth located on the third floor so if you're lost like I was, just look for the airport security scanning devices and you'll know where to go.

The trains depart quite frequently and is impeccably comfortable. It also wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be fortunately. I would expect it to be filled though, if you take it during China's peak periods like Chinese New Year and stuffs.

The KTT trains are run by Hong Kong Transport and I heard they're more comfortable despite there being no difference in price. It costs 183RMB for a normal ticket and 218RMB for a VIP ticket. I settled for spending a little more for more comfort and so I bought the VIP tickets and man, were they worth it.

The train will drop you off at Hung Hom on the Hong Kong side, which is just a few minutes walk to Nathan Road, if you're staying there. But if you're not, there's an extensive network of rapid transit in Hong Kong to take you around.

Hong Kong, up next.
